The Effects of Mass Loss on the Evolution of Chemical Abundances in Fm Stars
نویسندگان
چکیده
Self-consistent stellar models including all effects of atomic diffusion and radiative accelerations as well as mass loss are evolved from the pre main sequence for stars of 1.35-1.5 M⊙ at solar metallicity (Z=0.02). A mass loss rate similar to the solar mass loss rate is sufficient to reproduce observations of the star τUMa. We discuss the effect of mass loss on the iron convection zone that naturally appears beneath the main hydrogen convection zone of these stars. We also find that the effects of mass loss can be distinguished from those caused by turbulence, but are nevertheless able to explain the particularities of the AmFm phenomenon.

Massive star evolution: from the early to the present day Universe
Mass loss and axial rotation are playing key roles in shaping the evolution of massive stars. They affect the tracks in the HR diagram, the lifetimes, the surface abundances, the hardness of the radiation field, the chemical yields, the presupernova status, the nature of the remnant, the mechanical energy released in the interstellar medium, etc... In this paper, after recalling a few character...
متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملCircumstellar molecular line emission from S-type AGB stars: Mass-loss rates and SiO abundances
Aims. The main aim is to derive reliable mass-loss rates and circumstellar SiO abundances for a sample of 40 S-type AGB stars based on new multi-transitional CO and SiO radio line observations. In addition, the results are compared to previous results for M-type AGB stars and carbon stars to look for trends with chemical type. Methods. The circumstellar envelopes are assumed to be spherically s...
متن کاملForty Years of X-Ray Binaries
In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...
متن کاملLINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS
The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
